Culcher Vulcher: Art Gallery of NSW

Too much to go into detail really, so I'll just upload some pics of my fave artists (not necessarily the pieces on display there, what I can I tell you, I'm lazy).

The top piece is artist Tim Storrier's entry into the Archibald Prize competition. I wasn't a huge fan of much there. I liked the winning piece by Ben Quilty, but I figure that's been covered enough. I thought the Wynne Landscape prize had some much more interesting stuff.

I really like this landscape by young film-maker turned artist Joshua Yeldham. He has some great work all over the interwebs. The intricacy and invention has to be seen in real life to be enjoyed properly.

This is Neil Frazer's entry, which I think won the whole thing. The perspective is great, and the thick paint (which seemed to be in vogue) looks fantastic.

Elsewhere in the museum I really liked:

Australian surrealist and avid homosexualist (No really, Google it, he was all about nekkid men floating over melted Australian landscapes)  James Gleeson's work.

Stephen Bush does brilliant combinations of abstract/grotesque/kitsch takes on the Australian landscape. I love his use of colour, history and perspective.

Of course I had a butchers at the new Kaldor Family extension to the gallery. Lots of interesting stuff there. Plenty of Christo, if that's your bag. Also some interesting photography of industrial weirdness by duo Hilla Becher.

The collection features alot of minimalists like Sol LeWitt. Not really my bag. Perhaps I'll enjoy it more as I get older. I never thought I'd like landscapes either, but here we are and it's pretty much my favourite thing to see. Even if you agree still go, since where else can you see a life-size sculpture of a snoozing clown?
