Culcher: Other than Matisse


Yeah yeah Brisbane's GOMA has the new Matisse exhibit, as well as another Yayoi Kusama (aka the kiddie show) , but it's the contemporary art upstairs which is the most interesting. Above is a photograph by Taiwanese artist Yao Jui Chung, as part of his series Roaming Around the Ruins. More below.


Also excellent was a video installation by Australian artist Sandra Selig. It's a series of video screens showing water at night time. Sounds simple, but it's incredibly beautiful and moving. She also has some funky cobwebs, shown below:




There's also a whole bunch of great contemporary paintings and indigenous art to see. All of it less musty than that Matisse downstairs. Free too.
